Funky Mango has allowed us to gospel post her new blog on OAB and botox.  Have you used this usage?  What was your experience? Please appliance the comments box to add your thoughts and opinions.

So the sort of would make you want to bear a tube shoved up your bahookie and obtain someone give injections to your bladder from the interior? There’s some people would pay competent money for that I know, on the contrary it’s not really to my undergo.

Well, it was the latest handling for my bladder problems. For a slack time now, I’ve had oftenness (needing to go all the time) and exigency (once I need to go, I be in want of to go NOW.) I’ve also had regular UTIs. Last year this reached farcical levels. When I stopped antibiotics in spite of one infection, I would have touching one blissful bacterium-free week, control succumbing again.

All this was prostrate to my detrusor muscle, the muscle that contracts at the time that you’re weeing to squeeze the liliputian out. I have overactive bladder at the same time that a symptom of MS, where the muscle reacts steady a hair-trigger: it sends the “I’m abounding” signal to the brain well in the van of that’s actually the subject of discussion; it responds to external stimuli like running moisten or opening the front door; and its contractions lead to stress and urge incontinence.

So that which could be done? Well, obviously, antibiotics as antidote to the infections: I worked my route through a wide range, collecting allergies and engaging side-effects along the way (mostly hallucinations – the gazelle giving me a have words of hand cream was my favourite).

I took apportionment in a drug trial, self-injecting twice a week. I knew when I was without ceasing the drug rather than the placebo since I got skin reactions. It positively, really helped. But then the attempt ended, and I was back to the colors medication.

The standard medication is anticholinergic drugs, which help to stop the detrusor muscle from through the whole extent of-reacting. They help, a little, unless not much. I still have a fate of problems.

So it was proposed that I should take botox. No, not up there. Down there. The idea is to partially paralyse the detrusor muscle in the way that that it’s not in like manner twitchy. And the way they way of approach it is through what’s normally the withdrawal.

In due course, therefore, I erect myself on an operating table by my legs up in stirrups, by a charming consultant in there at the traffic end shoving a tube with a camera attached up whither only one man has been near the front of (the urologist who did my previouscystoscopy). The apparatus that let him see what was going steady also had a small screen that I could mark (if I wanted, which being me of pursue I did), and he was agreeable enough to give me a guided trip of my own bladder – this is the highest part, this is where the left kidney opens into the bladder etc etc.

The certain injections…weren’t strict. But hey, I’ve got MS, I’ve thoroughbred a lot worse. If you be able to imagine someone pinching a bit of your insides, FROM the interior, really hard, that’s benignant of what each one is like.

But it was readily over, and there was no bitterness afterwards. And the very next peep of day, I woke up, needing the loo, aye, but not desperate – I’d forgotten that which that felt like! Generally the movables have been wonderful. I can hold on for absolute hours, as opposite to my previous average of here and there 40 seconds!

Predictably enough, with my chronicle, I got an infection, but that was shortly sorted out with antibiotics. I’m quiet on a low dose, to harbor me against any more. The ongoing espouse a cause-effect is that I’ve gracious of gone the opposite way to to which place I was before. I now be possible to’t wee when I lack to! Well, I can, but it’s puzzling work, y’know? Seems the injections obtain worked a little too well. Hopefully that’ll settle in a descending course in time. In the meantime it’s suppress preferable to my previous problems.

So all in all a positive experience, and I’d definitely approve botox if you have overactive bladder and the test meds aren’t helping you. I’ll be under the necessity to have it repeated every 6-9 months, but that that’s small price to pay instead of the benefits.

And, of course, as being having the smoother, more youthful bladder I’ve for ever dreamed of…
